I recently published my first book. It is not the first published work I thought I would have but I felt inspired to write it. The book is called Cut the Crap – Direct Tips for Becoming a Dad. In this book I cover six things I believe are important for men preparing to become dads (and dads in general). Below is the introduction from the book to give you a taste of what is inside.

Why is this Book So Short?
When my wife told me she was pregnant for the first time, I honestly didn’t know how to feel. I expressed gratitude and happiness but, in a way, I viewed it as a met expectation and a normal part of life. Viewing it as something that was supposed to happen, I functioned under the premise that I would do fine as a dad because I was supposed to. I thought if all of those other men from the beginning of time had raised children, and we were all still here, that I would do just fine.
My wife wanted me to read books on parenting, but I did not. Youthful arrogance played a part in that because I assumed I would do well enough. I also observed and heard a lot about parenting. At the time, it seemed like people just presented specific things to do regardless of circumstances. I did not buy in to the magical 3 steps to raise perfect kids.
Then my wife, who read as many books as she could, had stacks of these books in the house. I just saw all of the pages and felt overwhelmed by this daunting task. Full disclosure, I do not do well with reading large amounts. I love to learn but I want short bites of written material or preferably I want to listen to and watch content.
By writing a book this short on such a big topic I am not saying that all other books on parenting or fatherhood are stupid and pointless. There are good books out there. I have just read books before thinking a lot of what was in the book was unnecessary. I have also heard too many sermons that carried on for an hour where the preacher told me to trust in God 37 different ways. Maybe I have just been scarred.
My goal with this book is simply to communicate concisely to you what I believe are the main mental changes and preparations you need to make to make the most out of being a dad. You have a lifetime of learning ahead of you because you will never have it all figured out, but I think this is a great starting point to help you on that path.
As you go through this book, take time to reflect, make notes, and honestly answer the application questions. Remember what Jesus said about people who hear and do nothing compared to people who hear and act. Those who hear and do nothing are like a man who built a house on the sand, and it was destroyed when the storm came. Those who hear and act are like a man who built a house on a rock, and it withstood the storm. You do not want to crumble as a dad. Think about what you’ll read, apply it, and act.
